In
its latest drive to promote the use of genuine software,
authorised local distributor of Microsoft TechDistribution
Limited urged local PC resellers and system builders
to work together in a bid to ward off piracy by educating
their customers on its dangers.
Despite the innovative enhancement made by Microsoft
to reduce the risk of piracy and software tampering,
pirates always finds a way to crack it, fuelled by
a lack of enforcement as well as customers' need for
cheaper alternatives.
At the Microsoft COEM product launch at Orchid Garden
Hotel, TechDistribution Limited Managing Director
Wasantha Weerakone said local resellers and system
builders must work as a team, and make every effort
to go forward.
"Of course, by selling only authenticated products,
they could make less profit. But it will lead to long-term
benefits and heightened customer satisfaction,"
he said.
At the launch, one of the leading local system builders
and distributors said the demand for pirated software
in Brunei is still very high. "We usually sell
our system bundled with original windows. But some
customers want us to give them copies so they can
buy them cheaper."
Meanwhile, during a briefing, computer resellers
and system builders were introduced to the many new
features within the new Microsoft Software Protection
Platform, including how the new operating system is
validated online and behaves when tampering or hacking
is detected.
