resellers, system builders called on to fight piracy

 |
 In
its latest drive to promote the use of genuine
software, authorised local distributor of Microsoft
TechDistribution Limited urged local PC resellers
and system builders to work together in a bid
to ward off piracy by educating their customers
on its dangers.
Despite the innovative enhancement made by
Microsoft to reduce the risk of piracy and software
tampering, pirates always finds a way to crack
it, fuelled by a lack of enforcement as well
as customers' need for cheaper alternatives.

COEM

TechDistribution Limited, the Microsoft Authorised
Distributor and a Large Account Reseller for
Brunei Darussalam, recently added Microsoft
COEM (Commercial Original Equipment Manufacturing)
products under their product portfolio. With
this announcement, Systems Builders (PC assemblers)
and the PC resellers in Brunei Darussalam now
can procure COEM products through local distribution
channel, enabling enhanced services to the customers.
TechDistribution Limited is working closely
with the IT reseller channel in Brunei Darussalam
and this latest announcement will enhance the
reseller community to better serve the market.

Bundle
of activities at Microsoft event

 Microsoft,
which recently opened an office in the Sultanate,
held a consumer event yesterday for its latest operating
system, the Window Vista and Microsoft Office 2007,
at The Mall in Gadong.
The event - which ran from 10 am to 10 pm - offered
an array of activities for visitors, including a colouring
competition and a musical island contest as well as
a crowd-pleasing 'WoW Hunt' competition.
Event partners, such as Brusin, Concepts Computer,
E-Prime Networks, JM-Technology and Tech Distribution,
also offered their computer and training services
at promotional prices.

Prince launches Brunei Microsoft office

 His
Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the
Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's
Office yesterday consented to launch an office for
Microsoft in Brunei Darussalam.
Microsoft Corporation's new sales and marketing office
in the Sultanate marks the first multinational software
technology company to establish its presence here.
The event began with the recital of a doa selamat
following the arrival of HRH the Crown Prince at The
Mall in Gadong. A welcoming speech by Mr Chris Atkinson,
President, Microsoft - Southeast Asia, followed.

 His

Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's
Office, yesterday consented to launch the Microsoft
office in Brunei Darussalam.
Microsoft Corporation announced the opening of a
new sales and marketing office in the Sultanate.
The event began with the recital of Doa Selamat upon
the arrival of HRH the Crown Prince at The Mall in
Gadong followed by a welcoming speech from Mr Chris
Atkinson, President, Microsoft - South East Asia.
Also present at the launching ceremony were Pengiran
Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pg Anak
Hj Abdul Rahim and cabinet ministers.
A demonstration of Windows Vista and Office 2007
with a brief video presentation was presented. HRH
the Crown Prince consented to receive a 'Pasambah'
and to take a closer look at the Microsoft Windows
Vista at a Microsoft design kiosk.

Pirated software
cheap but unreliable |

 In
an interview with the Bulletin yesterday, Mr Lars Jeppesen
the CEO of TechDistribution Ltd highlighted that a lot of
users, including public offices and departments, are using
pirated software copies and if there is no one here to provide
services and support, it is very difficult to justify.
He believes that bringing added value to software products
and educating end users on the benefits and issues of piracy
are important.
Lars Jeppesen said that buying pirated software is not
only wrong, but it could also bring problems. Most of the
companies that use them lose data and go bankrupt. Microsoft
updates its software to make it secure and safe. With licensed
software, those updates can be downloaded on a regular basis.

 Microsoft
appointed TechDistribution Ltd as its authorised distributor
for Brunei in a launching ceremony held yesterday at the
Orchid Garden Hotel. Among those present were Mr Lars Jeppesen,
CEO of Tech Distribution, as well as its senior officials
and local IT resellers.
The company is based in British Virgin Island. A valuable
presentation on the 'Introduction to Microsoft Partner Programme'
was delivered by Mr Haja Sheriff, Director-Partner Group,
Microsoft Southeast Asia.
